Ski & Sail Svalbard
The Worlds Northernmost Ski Terrain
Ski mountaineering at a Latitude of 78º-79º North is the most exotic skiing trip possible. Spitsbergen is the only populated island in the Svalbard island group. This trip is in a truly remote and wild environment with wildlife and glaciated peaks that offer world class skiing. Traveling by sailboat among the majestic mountains and glaciers that rise from the sea, is an experience of a lifetime. We will sail to a new location every day. Traveling with skis and sails will get you close to nature, wildlife and untouched powder. The weather and conditions can change quickly. For this reason we only use IFMGA certified ski guides who have local knowledge of the area. This way we can offer a flexible program, with the best knowledge, as well as ensuring safety.
The Svalbard archipelago is one of the northernmost land-areas in the world. Most of this territory is still pristine, without roads or other signs of human intervention. Svalbard is situated between 74 and 81 degrees north, between 10 and 35 degrees east and consists of islands of various sizes. 60 percent of the landmass is covered in ice, and less than ten percent has any vegetation. All tours will be planned according to where we get the best conditions for skiing along the wild west coast of Spitsbergen. Depending on objective and current weather conditions, we will start the day with a good breakfast, organize our equipment and get ready to chase the powder.
The skiing, scenery, and wildlife of Svalbard is very unique. Due to the fact that we are visiting the land of the Polarbears, the guides always carry firearms with them.We will use approx. 6-8 hours round trip on a average trip. The sun never really sets so we can adjust the schedule to any time of the day or night. We´ll enjoy the stunning views exploring the untouched mountains. When we are back down to the boat again, it’s time for dinner, chilling, fishing, sailing and planning the next day’s destination.
