Stetind’s spicier little brother

Kuglhorn is Stetind’s less famous neighbour. But if, like us, you value the quality of the climbing over vertical metres gained, this might be your dream summit. The razor-sharp ridge looks more like a dragon’s back than something you could climb, but fear not: we guide this mega-classic regularly, and you’ll want to tell your friends about it.

Your guide will keep you safe and comfortable throughout. There are many pitches and the difficulty builds towards the summit, yet it’s less about climbing skill than keeping your nerve.

The day starts with a hike up the famous Verdenssvadet, a giant granite slab that’s an experience in itself. At the col we rope up and start climbing. From the summit it’s an easy walk down to the car.

We only use IFMGA-certified mountain guides or IFMGA aspirants on this climb: the highest qualification in mountaineering and climbing, and your assurance of a safe and memorable day.

A longer variation starts further east with Peak 770, continues over Kuglhorn and finishes on Sildpolltind in the west. It’s a long alpine route that stays on the crest of the ridge throughout and needs one bivouac: a two-day adventure on some of the best granite ridge climbing in the north.

Itinerary

Your guide will contact you a few days before to plan the climb. You’ll meet early in the morning at an agreed location, usually the trailhead parking.

The approach is a hike of about two hours to the col. There we rope up and scramble and climb to the summit, returning down the other side of the mountain.

The descent has some scrambling at the top, then a pleasant walk out through the pine forest.
