Stjerntind

One of Norway’s hardest summits to reach
Stjerntind is one of the hardest summits in Norway to reach by its easiest route, and we’re happy to guide you there. The climb starts with a steep hike up from the fjord and rewards you with some of the most spectacular views in Lofoten. It sits in Lofoten’s wild west, above the idyllic fishing village of Nusfjord.
We start by the sea and hike up steep, grassy slopes. At the Rusta col you see the jagged crown of Stjerntind for the first time, and its name, “Star Peak”, makes sense the moment you do. After scrambling and traversing some exposed ledges, we rope up for six tricky pitches in a wild setting. From the false summit we walk to the base of the main summit and climb a final pitch to the narrow summit ridge. A short, exposed scramble takes us to the top. There is barely room for three people, and the view is one of the best you’ll ever have.
Your guide will contact you a few days before to plan the climb. You’ll meet early in the morning at an agreed location, usually the trailhead parking. The approach is a hike of about 2.5 hours to the start of the climb.
The climb is six short pitches up to grade 5.9, all climbed in mountaineering boots. We descend by abseiling the route, then hike down to the car.
