A long alpine ridge to an iconic Lofoten summit

The North Ridge of Vågakallen is an outstanding alpine rock route with varied climbing on quality granite. It’s our favourite big ridge in Lofoten: the position, the climbing and the views are world class. Vågakallen is a massive peak standing right above the Norwegian Sea. If you’re looking for a single day that captures everything Lofoten has to offer, this is it.

Itinerary

You’ll meet your guide at our office in the morning for a coffee and a briefing before the 20-minute drive to the parking. The approach is a 2.5-hour hike.

We rope up where the ridge becomes steep and exposed and follow it to the summit, with several pitches up to 5.8 and plenty of scrambling. The descent is a three-hour hike back to the car.
